Come listen to Laura A. Peter ’92 and Julie Mar-Spinola ’87 in a fireside chat moderated by Prof. Colleen Chien, Former White House Senior Advisor on Intellectual Property and Biden-Harris Transition Team member. Hear how these Santa Clara Law women became patent powerhouses and made their way to the top! Laura Peter is the former Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She was the principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, and was responsible for all agency operations. This included oversight for the four USPTO Regional Offices, managing 13,000 employees, and executing the policies, priorities and programs for an annual budget of $3.5 billion. Julie Mar-Spinola is the current chair of the USPTO Patent Public Advisory Committee, in addition to being the Chief IP Officer and VP of Legal Operations at Finjan Holdings. She is also a co-founder of the renown women’s organization, ChIPs, a global 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to advancing women at the confluence of law, technology and regulatory policy.
