Starting in the Fall of 2024, Santa Clara Law students specializing in Intellectual Property will have the opportunity to benefit from a newly established scholarship. The Frank D. Nguyen Endowed Scholarship, made possible by the generosity of Frank Nguyen J.D. ’94 and his wife, Van Le, through the Nguyen-Le Family Trust, will be awarded annually based on merit. This marks the first endowed scholarship at Santa Clara University specifically tailored for IP. Frank Nguyen, a retired VP of IP and licensing at Intuitive Surgical, Inc., played a crucial role in the company’s substantial growth, and his extensive experience in IP strategies makes him a notable figure in the field.

Nguyen’s commitment to SCU, demonstrated through this significant gift, reflects his appreciation for the education he received at the institution. Having started as an electro-mechanical engineer in the early 1990s, Nguyen pursued his law degree through SCU’s part-time program, balancing work and studies.

The scholarship aims to encourage excellence in legal scholarship and research within the realm of IP and high tech law at Santa Clara Law, filling a gap in endowed scholarships for this specific area. Nguyen’s motivation stems from his desire to give back to the institution that provided him with valuable opportunities and to support the next generation of IP students. Those interested in contributing to the scholarship fund or supporting Santa Clara Law students can contact Assistant Dean of Advancement, Jolee David, at (408) 554-5496, with the School of Law Day of Giving scheduled for April 10, 2024, being a prime opportunity for donations.
