Michael Morton, who spent 25 years behind bars in Texas for the wrongful murder conviction of his wife, will release his memoir, “Getting Life: An Innocence Man’s 25-Year Journey From Prison to Peace” on Tuesday.

In 1986, Morton’s wife Christine was murdered in her Texas home while he was away at work. Although he did not commit the crime, Morton was charged with his wife’s murder. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Through the efforts of the Innocence Project and other attorneys, DNA testing ultimately cleared Morton and identified the actual perpetrator. Morton was exonerated and released from prison in 2011 after spending 25 years incarcerated. His wrongful conviction stemmed from prosecutorial misconduct by local law enforcement officials, particularly Williamson County District Attorney Ken Anderson, who in 2013 was found in contempt of court for Morton’s wrongful conviction case.

Since his release in 2011, Morton has been the subject of various media profiles and has become a tireless best practices advocate.
