The Honorable Eugene Hyman JD ’77 wrote an op-ed for the San Jose Mercury News arguing that any changes to Proposition 47, the Reduced Penalties for Some Crimes Initiative, need to be based on science.
“The fact that certain crimes have increased after Proposition 47 was passed is not scientific evidence that the new laws are responsible for an increase in crime. To argue that they are is irresponsible, misleading and smacks of fearmongering.”
