Center for Global Law and Policy with LL.M Commencement Celebration 2023_1

This year, for the first time ever, the Center for Global Law and Policy joined with Santa Clara University Global Engagement Department, and the Santa Clara Law LLM program to hold a joint, Global Graduation Celebration. The event was held in the Nobili Hall on Thursday, May 18 at noon.

Tseming Yang (Director of the Center for Global Law and Policy), Vangie Abriel (Director of the LLM program), Susan Popko (Associate Provost for International Programs), and Melissa Heid (Director of International Students and Scholars) celebrated our graduates with speeches and toasts and conferred special sashes in recognition of their accomplishments.

The event was well attended by family and friends from around the world and included CGLP-affiliated faculty Mike Flynn, Phil Jimenez, Don Polden, Sue Guan, and Taylor Dalton.

We were thrilled to host this joint celebration and to resume celebrating in person after many years online. A list of graduates is included below:

International Law Certificate Earners

Amanda Miyuki Ogata earned the International Business Law certificate, with honors. In addition to her courseworkCGLP and LL.M Commencement Celebration 2023 in the U.S. Amanda attended our summer study abroad program in Vienna, Austria, as well as our intersession immersion on International Business Negotiations in Tokyo, Japan. Amanda participated in the International Human Rights Clinic and served as a mentor to our incoming Exchange Students. We are also proud to recognize that Amanda completed the elective coursework for both the international business law and public international law concentrations within our certificate program.

Brooke Wallace Brewer earned the Public International Law certificate, with honors. In addition to her coursework in the U.S. Brooke attended our summer study abroad program at Oxford University in England and served on the board of the Journal of International Law.

Rebecca Andrea Alvarado earned the International Business Law certificate, with honors. In addition to her coursework in the U.S. Rebecca attended our summer study abroad program at Oxford University in England and served on the board of the International Law Student Association (ILSA).
