Caption Contest Rules

Readers are being asked to submit captions for cartoons that will be published in upcoming issues of the HTLI newsletter. The caption contest has three components:

  • Cartoons will be published in the newsletter and readers are invited to submit captions via an online form
  • The HTLI marketing team will pick three entries and post them for voting by the HTLI extended community. The caption with the most votes during the voting period is the winner.
  • The cartoon with the winning caption will be published in the next issue of the newsletter and the winning author will receive a framed color print of the cartoon with the winning caption.

Rules

  • You may submit as many captions as you like, but only one caption per form.
  • No profanity, hate speech or sexual references in the captions.
  • Decisions by HTLI staff are final.
  • The deadline for entry is 11:59 pm PT on the date posted in the newsletter.
  • Entries must be the original work of the author.
  • Entries may be edited for clarity and style.
  • By submitting a caption for consideration in the contest, the author grants the High Tech Law Institute and/or the HTLI Newsletter the exclusive and perpetual right to license the caption to others and to publish the caption in any publication, whether print or digital, and to reproduce the caption on any materials, including clothing.
  • Contest entries will be judged initially by the HTLI marketing team, then put up for public vote.
  • Winning entries will be published online at law.scu.edu/hightech/caption-contest-winners/ and in the next issue of the HTLI Newsletter.
  • Those ineligible to enter include the faculty and staff of Santa Clara Law. This contest is void where prohibited.
  • There is no monetary award for the contest. The prize is a reprint of the cartoon with the caption and, of course, bragging rights.
  • Entering or voting by bot may result in disqualification of an entry.
  • If you don’t make us laugh, we reserve the right not to publish the winning entry.
