Job Description: Levine Bagade Han LLP is an intellectual property law practice in Palo Alto, CA. We work closely with fast-moving clients who care about their intellectual property (IP). We focus on IP strategy, patent prosecution, portfolio management, due diligence (client and investor based), IP licensing, IP procedures management, trade secret counseling, litigation support, trademark prosecution, etc.

Position: Patent Associate/Patent Agent/2L or 3L law students who are working towards a law degree.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Managing Partner.

Schedule: Full Time or Part Time.

Responsibilities: Under general direction performs patent prosecution, patent strategy, due diligence, licensing, some trademark counseling and prosecution, and other legal services for clients as needed.

Technical Background: Mechanical or biomedical engineering background preferred. Other science and engineering degrees considered.

Qualifications: Eligible to sit for California Bar and Patent Bar Exams. M.S. or Ph.D. in relevant technical field or substantial technical work experience preferred. Registration with the USPTO and/or experience as a patent agent is a plus.

Patent Coordinator

Description:
This person needs to be highly organized and detail oriented. Requires understanding of spreadsheets. Needs to have good interpersonal skills to interact with inventors/engineers. It’s beneficial to have some technical background to understand the technology. Needs to be proactive and assertive in order to keep on top of due dates and follow up with engineers and others on action items.

If possible, experience handling patent matters prior involvement in the patent process is desirable. It may be beneficial if the person is familiar with patent searching resources and how to search for patents. It may be beneficial if the coordinator were able to notarize documents.
 

Duties:
Receiving correspondence from attorneys with patent-related documentation (e.g., USPTO correspondence, inventor declarations, assignments) and take action as instructed by the attorneys. This can include locating, coordinating with, and following-up with proper personnel to sign documents and to witness or notarize the signatures. Coordinating patent-related meetings such as conference calls, in-person meetings, invention disclosures, etc. Helping to identify inventors for patent applications using inventorship guidelines. Maintaining a spreadsheet of inventors with inventor information. Gathering prior art references from inventors. Reviewing budgets and billings. Helping follow-up with inventors on reviewing applications prior to filing. Possibly reviewing applications for content/subject matter if the person has an appropriate technical background. Identifying “watching opportunities,” e.g., monitoring competitor activities and patent status, updating patent attorneys on changes within the company and changes in the industry.
