Why Speed Networking?
In the current virtual climate, it is more important than ever for employers and Santa Clara Law students to establish connections early in the academic year. Start building relationships with talented students who could be potential hires in the future and receive a Resume Book, while helping our students practice their virtual networking skills. This event series is an opportunity for students to explore the types of careers that lawyers can have, to spark students’ interest in your organization or firm, and broadcast your recruiting needs and hiring timelines of all types including OCI recruiting, fall, spring, summer, and post-graduate employment. Our students are eager to meet you, learn about what you do, and about the opportunities and application processes, if any, they can expect during this academic year.
Event Series Format
We have broken the events in the series down based on the employer sectors that would typically attend Santa Clara Law’s in-person career fairs. Historically, these career fairs have been our PI/PS Day Career Fair, our Meet the Employers of OCI: Preview to Fall Recruiting Career Fair, and our High Tech Career Fair. Small and mid-sized firms, as well as large firms/OCI employers, are encouraged to attend our Law Firm Event. Firms specializing in high tech as well as corporate employers, including applicable OCI employers, are encouraged to attend our High Tech/In-House Event. Public Interest and Public Sector/Government employers, including those who participate in OCI, should sign up for our PI/PS Event. All employers with specialties/qualifications/recruiting methods spanning more than one event are welcome to sign up for multiple events. Please note that this year our virtual OCI session will begin January 13, 2021.
The events will take place over Zoom. Each event will be broken into groups containing approximately 7-8 employers per group who will be networking with approximately 30-40 students assigned to their group. Employers will rotate through break-out rooms containing 4-5 students per room in 15-minute increments. The Office of Career Management staff will facilitate the rotation, so the participants can focus on engaging with one another. We encourage the exchange of contact information either during or following the events, to facilitate one-on-one networking after the events.
