On January 24, the Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center hosted an MCLE Diversity Update on the State Bar’s recent Report Card on the Diversity of California’s Legal Profession. The panel was held virtually and was part of the Center’s 2023 Speaker Series.
Santa Clara Law Professor Deborah Moss-West (Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center) moderated the panel which featured speakers from the State Bar of California including Lisa Chavez, Director of Research and Institutional Accountability, and Elizabeth Hom, Director of the Office of Access and Inclusion, who were joined by Zoë Polk, Executive Director of the East Bay Community Law Center.
Attendees learned ways in which Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, anti-implicit bias, and advancing justice work are happening in various legal sectors. Panelists reflected on the data from the report, bringing it to life in a practical way with a call to action. They emphasized the importance of diversity in the legal profession and having a bar that represents California’s rich diversity to allow for more accessibility to justice, particularly for underserved communities.
The Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center (KGACLC) is deeply committed to bringing important information to the legal community through its speaker series and ongoing work to advance racial and social justice.
