The American Bar Association is in favor of U.S. ratification of the United Nations’ Convention on the Law of the Sea, signed by President Clinton in 1994, recommended for ratification by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 2004 and 2007, but not yet brought up for a vote by the Senate. 160 nations are now party to the Convention. The Big Push by Rhonda McMillon in August’s ABA Journal outlines the arguments in favor of U.S. ratification. A portion of the ABA website on the Convention links to the text of relevant documents from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
