The Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague has convicted Charles Ghankay Taylor, the former president of Liberia, on 11 counts involving armed attacks in Sierra Leone from 1996 to 2002: crimes against humanity, terrorism, and conscripting or enlisting child soldiers. This is the first time since Nuremberg that a head of state has been convicted by an international criminal tribunal.
