TO ALL 3L and 4L LAW STUDENTS:

DEADLINE: July 26, 2019

Dear Santa Clara Law Students:

I have been asked by the Ingram American Inn of Court to select student leaders at Santa Clara Law who will be invited to serve as Pupils in next year’s Inn of Court membership. I am writing to solicit student interest by 3L and 4L in serving as a Pupil in the Ingram Inn of Court during the 2019-2020 academic year.

In case you are not familiar with the Inn of Court concept, I will explain. The concept started about 20 years ago in the US and it is based on the English inns of court. Senior lawyers and judges meet monthly with younger lawyers and law students to discuss issues of significance to the legal profession (for example, civility in the practice of law, the nature of professionalism among lawyers, development of essential lawyering skills), mentor newer lawyers and law students, and discuss the work they do. It is a very prestigious appointment and, after working with Inns of Court in three cities, I can assure you that you will enjoy the experience.

The Inn meets on the second Wednesday of each month during the academic year (except for December) and the final meeting in May. The meetings fit the school year schedule very well, but you will need make a personal commitment to attend the meetings (i.e., not have class conflict at that time and day of the week) which begin about 5:30 p.m. in both the fall and spring semesters. The Inn will give you specific information about meeting locations and times. There is a small fee for pupils to participate but the law school covers the fee.

Please let me know if you are interested in being considered for appointment as a Pupil in the Ingram Inn of Court by sending an expression of interest, along with a current resume or personal statement to Noelia McKeever at nmckeever@scu.edu in the Dean’s Office.

Please send this information to Noelia by July 26, 2019, and we will notify you shortly after that to let you know if you have been selected for one of the positions.

Please let me or Professors Donald Polden (who is a member of the Ingram Inn of Court) if you have any questions.

Best,
Anna
