KGACLC Litigation Skills 1a

Course Description:

Provides opportunities for upper-division students to master lawyering skills while directly serving the community. Students can select one practice area from the following: consumer law,  or immigration law.  In addition to attending class and preparing for class, students are expected to schedule eight office hours per week at the Center to work on their clients’ cases.  Students wishing to earn more than 3 units have the option of taking Skills Ib

(1 unit for each additional 50 hours of casework { or roughly 3.5 extra hours per week of casework per unit}). Students are not required to sign up for additional units. Skills Ia units are graded; Skills Ib are credit/no credit.

Additionally, all students must attend an all-day skills training program on the first Saturday of the semester and regular 75-minute seminar meetings twice a week.

Experiential Course

This course is the graded portion of Litigation Skills I. Students wishing to take more than 3 units of Litigation Skills I should also register for 1-3 units of Litigation Skills Ib, which is the credit/no credit portion of this class. Students must submit a form after enrolling. Students must attend a mandatory training class on Saturday, August 21  from 8:30-5:00.  Each student is required to attend the first day of class and if not the student will be dropped from the course
