Late today New York approved same-sex marriage. This is a tremendous step forward in the battle for same-sex marriage rights in this country.

But remember that DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) still prevents same-sex married couples from being treated the same as opposite-sex married couples at the federal level. Given the number of same-sex married couples in New York, we are likely to see more DOMA challenges in the future.
