Santa Clara University School of Law’s Student Bar Association (SBA) proudly announces a transformative $5,000 gift from distinguished alumnus Omar Habbas J.D. ’85. The donation will enhance programming support for the law school’s 41 student organizations, fostering a more vibrant and inclusive campus community.

Habbas, founder of the Middle Eastern Law Student Association (now MENALSA) in 1984, has long demonstrated his commitment to educational advancement through philanthropic support of Santa Clara University School of Law, Santa Clara Athletics, San Jose State University, and numerous other institutions.

The gift emerged after Habbas attended a Law Advisory Board meeting where he learned student leaders were personally funding essential programming when their organizational accounts ran dry – from legal expert panels and law firm networking events to educational tours for first-generation prospective law students, and so much more. Moved by this dedication, Habbas immediately arranged a follow-up meeting with SBA Co-Presidents Simone Wolberg J.D. ‘25 and Ajit Bhullar J.D. ‘25. Upon hearing how student organizations were striving to create professional development opportunities despite financial constraints, Habbas made an immediate commitment to support their mission.

“When I heard that students were reaching into their own pockets to keep vital programs running, I knew I had to act,” said Omar Habbas. “No aspiring attorney should face barriers to opportunity because of financial constraints. This gift is about empowering the next generation—ensuring they have the resources to learn, connect, and thrive. Their success strengthens not just our law school, but the entire legal profession.”

“We are deeply grateful to Mr. Habbas for his generosity and swift action in support of our student community,” said Bhullar and Wolberg. “His gift will have a direct impact on enriching the law school experience for current and future students.”

A forthcoming email will detail how the Student Bar Association plans to distribute these funds over a multi-year period.
