Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center has received funding from the Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services. The minimum amount will be $52,665. The Silicon Valley Campaign For Legal Services is an annual campaign program dedicated to raising funds to augment current contributions to Silicon Valley legal service agencies, which provide legal services to Silicon Valley’s disadvantaged residents.
The Center was also the recipient of a cy pres award from a consumer class action settlement. The amount of the award is $400,000. Santa Clara Law alumnus Niall McCarthy represented the plaintiffs in the action. Cy pres (meaning "as close to as possible”, in Latin) awards allow unclaimed settlement funds from class-action suits to be distributed to organizations that are most likely to benefit or pursue the interests of the class.
