Allen Ruby was born in Detroit, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Arts (1965) and JD (1969) degrees from Michigan State University and Stanford University, respectively.

Mr. Ruby has practiced in his own firm in San Jose since 1970. He has represented:

  • The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in contempt of court proceedings arising from litigation over conditions in the County Jail;
  •  
  • Hundreds of defrauded investors in Technical Equities Corporation, in litigation against financial institutions and other responsible parties;
  •  
  • Henry Boisvert, in the last 5 years of a 14 – year qui tam lawsuit against FMC Corporation. The jury verdict in favor of Mr. Boisvert was, at the time, the largest qui tam verdict ever awarded on behalf of an individual who prosecuted his case without assistance from the United States Government.
  •  
  • The National Football League, in litigation against the Oakland Raiders.
  •  
  • Former San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales, who was prosecuted for and exonerated of alleged crimes in office.
  •  
  • Gerald Hsu, former Chief Executive Officer of Avant! Corporation, in an extended criminal trade secrets case.
  •  
  • Jagdish Vij and Michael Kalashian, founders of a high technology Silicon Valley startup, in litigation against venture capital funds that allegedly "washed out" the founders.
  •  
  • Mr. Ruby presently represents Facebook, Inc. in a contract dispute, and Barry Bonds, accused of making false statements to a Grand Jury. 
  •  

Mr. Ruby is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1999 he was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association.
