Barbara Clayton

Barbara Clayton joined the faculty at Santa Clara University School of Law in January of 2023. She teaches Advanced Legal Writing. Barbara Clayton is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law with a Certificate in Privacy Law with Honors and earned the High Tech Law Excellence Award for 2020-2021. She passed the California Bar in 2021 and is a California-licensed attorney. Barbara has senior-level experience leading initiatives in corporations to ensure corporate policy and regulatory compliance. She has developed regulatory compliance strategies and designed product changes to ensure company readiness for privacy, competition, and consumer protection regulations across regions.

Prior to law school, Barbara worked in engineering and product management developing software products for Hewlett-Packard, Yahoo and eBay. She is currently employed at Google focused on developing compliance strategies for competition authority rulings and competition regulations such as the EU Digital Markets Act. Barbara is an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and Certified Privacy Information Technologist (CIPT). She is also a Board Member at Elevate Community Center, a non-profit focused on providing pro bono or low cost legal services to those in need.
