Santa Clara Law celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a live video Q&A with Dr. King’s close friend, lawyer, and advisor, Dr. Clarence B. Jones. Dr. Jones met with Santa Clara University law students to discuss the “Fierce Urgency of Now,” in which he reflected on his personal calling to attend law school, some memorable moments working with Dr. King and the motivations that continue to fuel his deep commitment to fighting racial injustice. Dr. Jones emphasized the importance of “understanding the history and current reality of the application of the law” in order to challenge systems of power that perpetuate racism.
Watch as students share their immediate reflections and express how the program inspired them.
The event was co-sponsored by the Center for Social Justice, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, the Black Law Students Association, and the Social Justice Consortium.
