SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 15, 2022— Linsey Krolik ’00 J.D./MBA, a Santa Clara Law alumna, lecturer, and senior clinical fellow, was recently appointed to a key group tasked with studying whether the California Bar Association should create a specialization in privacy law.

“Linsey is extremely deserving of this honor,” said Santa Clara Law Dean Michael Kaufman. “We are proud that she will be lending her experience and expertise in this important work on the frontlines of a critically important area of the law—one in which Santa Clara Law has tremendous expertise.”

Krolik was chosen by the California Board of Legal Specialization to be on the 13-member  Consulting Group on the Establishment of a Legal Specialization in Privacy Law (“Privacy Law Group”).  The group will provide recommendations to the Board about whether to add privacy law as an area where lawyers can publicly identify themselves as specialists. There are currently 11 specialization areas in the state.

If a practice area is recommended, the Privacy Law Group also will draft standards that lawyers must meet in order to be certified in the practice area.

Krolik is a senior clinical fellow in the Entrepreneurs’ Law Clinic where she helps oversee law students as they advise entrepreneurs. She is also director of the interdisciplinary Bronco Entrepreneurs Advisory Clinic Hours (BEACH), where she trains volunteer attorneys and students to counsel clients seeking legal advice for startups.  This spring she will be an assistant director in the Tech Edge JD program, an experiential certificate program for law students interested in working in technology law.

“Santa Clara Law has an extensive history of working with the California State Bar and other bar organizations to support California’s privacy law community,” said Associate Dean for Research Eric Goldman, supervisor of the Privacy Law Certificate and co-director of the High Tech Law Institute. “Linsey will bring her practical wisdom and extensive privacy law experience to help the Privacy Law Group do its important work.”
