On Thursday, October 17, Law Career Services will host Ms. Lisa Abrams, who will present a special program on “Finding the Right Fit: The Practice Area That’s Right for You.” Ms. Abrams will address questions like: Where do you start? How can you sort through the array of options available to you? What does it take to find a practice area that matches your skills, talents and interests? What can you do during your law school career to maximize your odds of landing a job in a practice area that truly interests you? Most importantly, how do you find a law job that will make you look forward to going to work in the morning? Don’t miss this exciting special event! ALL law students are welcome.
Attorney Lisa Abrams, in conjunction with the National Association for Law Placement, spent two years interviewing lawyers across the country to find out what they find rewarding about their practice specialties, what they like about their practice sectors, and what advice they have to offer law students. The interviews resulted in a book, The Official Guide to Legal Specialties: An Insider’s Guide to Every Major Practice Area. It is available at Heafey Law Library and at Law Career Services.
Ms. Abrams will visit Santa Clara to share lively stories from her interviews and offer advice for finding the specialty area and practice setting that’s right for you. She’ll tell you what satisfied lawyers have in common, and how you can find not just any job, but a job that you enjoy. After her presentation, she’ll be available to talk with students individually and answer their questions.
Ms. Abrams graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1985. She worked as an insurance defense attorney at a large law firm in Chicago before joining Chicago? Kent College of Law where she was Assistant Dean of Career Services.
Ms. Abrams works as a consultant to law schools, providing career programs and counseling to students and alumni, and is currently working on a book on alternative legal careers for the National Association for Law Placement. She is an adjunct professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago, where she teaches leadership and communication skills.
