Gilson S. Riecken has been appointed Distinguished Research Adjunct in Law for the 2008-09 academic year. Gilson received his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley in 1996; an M.A., Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1976, and an A.B. from Harvard College in 1970.

In addition to his research work being conducted at the law school this year, he has agreed to teach a Engineering and Law course in the Spring 2009 semester. This course is being developed and offered by the law school and the School of Engineering, and it represents an interesting and important collaboration between the schools of law and engineering.

Gilson most recently served as Vice President for Claims, Risk Management & Loss Prevention for Terra Insurance RRG, which is a risk retention group providing professional liability insurance to many environmental and geotechnical engineering firms in the United States. He also practiced law for several years, including, most recently, with Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy LLP in San Francisco. For many years, Gilson also practiced as an architect and as a project planning professional in Texas.
