You can also make a donation to support those doing the front line work of empowering working women. I am Executive Director of WOMEN ON THE BORDER, a 50l c3 tax exempt organization (permanent status as of 10/2006) and in addition to providing information and educational opportunities for learning more about the impact of globalization at the border we channel money through Mexico-based groups like the ComitΘ Fronterizo de Obreras (cfomaquiladoras.org) to support the grass-roots cause for self-empowerment against abuses by the U.S. factories and and to Nuestra Hijas de Regreso a Casa who are trying make the Mexican authorities more accountable in the criminal investigations. They have been trying to provide everything from therapeutic assistance to the children traumatized by the deaths of their working mothers as well as developing legal cases before international tribunals against the government officials who have blocked criminal investigations.

FInally, if you are interested in producing a delegation for your students to the Mexico border, the group to contact is AUSTIIN TAN CERCA DE LA FRONTERA (ATCF) and information about them is available through the WOMEN ON THE BORDER website, www.womenontheborder.org. ATCF and WOB collaborated to produce two delegations taking students from Northern Illinois, but they actually have FOUR (4) delegations per year to various points along the border where there are workers actively organizing for justice in the factories.
