Course Description:
The international human rights clinic (IHRC) provides a unique educational opportunity for students to gain first-hand, practical experience working on international human rights litigation and advocacy projects. The clinic combines classroom education with supervised case and project management, providing students practical training in advocacy and lawyering skills. For every 50 hours of participation in the program, including casework and class attendance, a student earns one unit. The first 3 units of academic credit earned at IHRC are graded. Any earned units above 3 are graded credit/no credit.

Experiential Course
This clinic will be taught remotely via Zoom, even if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted for all or part of the course’s duration. Students and Prof. Rivera may collectively choose to meet for class and weekly team meetings at a different time than what is listed in this course schedule.
This course is the graded portion of the International Human Rights Clinic. Students wishing to take more than 3 units of clinic should also register for 1 – 2 units of IHRC B, which is the credit/no credit portion of this class. Limited enrollment. Students must submit theInternational Human Rights Clinic Application and obtain a permission number from the professor in order to register for this course (contact FJRivera@scu.edu) Prior or concurrent course work in international human rights strongly preferred.
