Mission

PTLSA is dedicated to supporting the Part Time Law Students through educational, career, and social events. PTLSA advocates for activities and services to be more accessible to the particular needs of the Part time Students.

Goals:

1. Advocate on behalf of Part Time students for scheduling and law school policies that support the needs of Part Time students.

2. Provide alumni contacts and support for Part Time law students.

3. Create innovative solutions for Part Time students to be able to benefit from programs and activities that are usually inaccessible due to professional and family commitments and scheduling.

Alumni

Part-Time alumni are scattered throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the world. If you’re a graduate of our Part-Time option, please drop us a line and let us know how you are and what you’re doing.

Please also consider joining the PTLSA Alumni Group on LinkedIn and Facebook. (Note, admission to both of these groups is controlled)

Welcome Part-Time 1Ls!

President: Gregory Parks

My name is Greg Parks and I’m a 3L student. I am this year’s Vice President of PTLSA. Last year, I held the position of Vice President on the PTLSA Board. I have my undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University in Philosophy and Japanese. I currently have my own small business that I run while concurrently attending law school. I am interested in the areas of Business and Public Interest law.

Treasurer: Kim ThomasKim Thomas

My name is Kim Thomas and I am a 3LE student. I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Sociology. Being a part-time student allows me to work and gain practical experience. Throughout law school I have worked as a Paralegal for an estate planning law firm in Palo Alto. After the bar, I am interested in continuing my career as an estate planning attorney. I am excited to serve on the PTLSA Board this year and am happy to talk about classes, work/school balance or any concerns pertinent to part time students.

Secretary: Aaron Flemate

My name is Aaron Flemate. I’m a 4LE, and this year’s Secretary of the PTLSA Board. After graduating from UCLA, I spent a few years in the work force and decided to begin law school in Fall 2007. The Part Time [option] here at SCU has enabled me to work part-time throughout my legal education. I am interested in becoming a general practitioner with emphasis in estate planning, and employment law. Some fun courses that I’ve taken and would suggest to others are Honors Moot Court and the Employment Law Interviewing and Counseling Clinic at the Katharine and George Alexander Community Law Center.

Webmaster: David Holt

David Holt is a third year law student in the JD program, part-time option.  He also works as a reference librarian at the Heafey Law Library.  He received his undergraduate degree in English from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR and his Master’s in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University.  Formerly from Oregon, David has lived in California for nearly ten years now.  He makes his home in Santa Cruz with his partner, Harold.  He is actively involved in EQ|SCU , ACLU, NLG, BALIF and Amnesty International.  Professionally, he is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries and the Northern California Association of Law Libraries.  He is serving as co-chair this year for the Standing Committee on Lesbian and Gay Issues at the American Association of Law Libraries.

Amy Fisher

I graduated from University of Phoenix when I returned to school after having a family. I have two kids age 17 and 22, and two step kids age 23 and 24. I have worked in retail, banking, and spent 7 years doing corporate training, and 10 years in managing staffing for projects at IBM. I love music, reading, and hiking. My dog begs me to come to school, but I tell her we don’t get to run and play, but instead have to sit and listen to lectures – not something that is her forte.

Jamie Ormond

Jamie Ormond started law school in the part time option and is currently a 3L. She is involved in moot court competitions, renewable energy & the carbon market, jazz and pretending that she’s a runner. She is a networking star and can be contacted at jamie.ormond@gmail.com.
