High Schoolers at the Santa Clara Law Street Law Event

Congratulations to our amazing law school students who are a part of the Social Justice Coalition (SJC) and the Vietnamese-American Law Students (VALS). On April 19, working with Annemarie Scott and the Law Admissions and Financial Aid Office, they hosted 60 high school students at the Law School for a Street Law event. The visiting students were from Yerba Buena High School in East San Jose.

The hope of the law students is to excite younger generations in our community about the prospect of a legal career, and ultimately bridge the equity gap in higher education. As the amazing student organizers put it, “Like many LSOs (Law Student Street Law Event Talking with Justice PanelliOrganizations), SJC & VALS are passionate about advancing equity and inclusion in higher education. We strongly value community engagement, and believe that as law students, we have a heightened responsibility to serve the general public— especially the younger generations of students.”

The packed event schedule kept the visiting students engaged from start to finish:

10:00 am: High school students arrive at SCU School of Law

10:00 am – 10:30 am: Law students lead the visitors on campus tours

10:30 am – 11:00 am: Brief introductions and speeches

11:00 am – noon: “Street Law” lesson and Mock Trial activity

Noon: Pizza for all participants
