Welcome to DISCERN, Santa Clara University School of Law’s signature publication. Our vital Jesuit mission calls us all to “discern” – to desire and choose only what is most conducive to fulfilling our maximum human potential. As a law school, we wish to promote personal and communal discernment in all of our work. Through personal discernment, each of us yearns to conduct ourselves and to make important choices guided by the spirit of humility, joy, and loving kindness. Through communal discernment, we strive to decide together in an open, free, and inclusive process, how best to contribute our collective talents, tenacity, and tenderness in service of others and the greater good.
As our magazine’s title suggests, we hope that its content will inspire contemplation, deep reflection, and dialogue within our communities in pursuit of a more loving, just, and humane world. Founded on the Jesuit, Catholic faith tradition, Santa Clara Law is a transformative learning community built on shared enduring values and tremendous distinctive strengths. These attributes will be featured within the pages of DISCERN.
