Please join us in congratulating the members of Santa Clara University’s Trial Team for their performance…at the Tessa Duxbury, Olivia Salguero, and Felicity Evans National Trial Competition. This annual trial competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Texas Young Lawyers Association and is one of the premier national mock trial tournaments.

This year’s event took place at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco from February 3-5.

The two teams representing SCU for this event were:
Felicity Evans JD ’23
Olivia Salguero JD ’23
Tessa Duxbury JD ’23

and

Christopher Maldonado JD ’24
Taylor Green JD ’23
Michael Thiagasingh JD ’24

Christopher Maldonado, Taylor Green, and Michael ThiagasinghFor the preliminary rounds, both SCU teams presented three trials over the course of two days. Our teams battled hard in their trials and turned in amazing performances. The SCU team composed of Felicity Evans, Olivia Salguero, and Tessa Duxbury was selected to advance to the quarter-finals and then the semifinals. Their team ended up presenting a total of five trials over the course of the three-day tournament and they took third place in this prestigious competition.

San Francisco Superior Court Judges presided over the trials and attorneys from across the Bay Area served as jurors/scorers. Other SCU trial team students performed witness roles at the competition and were lauded for their preparation and efforts. Overall, SCU shined at the tournament and our students carried out all aspects of the trial superbly in an adversarial high-stakes environment.

The National Trial Competition was established in 1975 to encourage and strengthen students’ advocacy skills through quality competition and valuable interaction with members of the bench and bar. The program is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and is designed to expose law students to the nature of trial practice and to serve as a supplement to their education. We are extremely proud of all these students and hope that you will congratulate the competitors and their teammates when you see them around campus.
