Fisher Phillips Sharks Sports Law Internship 2

Santa Clara Law partners with Fisher Phillips LLP and the San Jose Sharks to launch new Sports Law internship program

SANTA CLARA, Calif., November 5, 2026—Santa Clara University School of Law has partnered with Fisher Phillips LLP and the San Jose Sharks to provide a 10-week summer internship program in sports law. The Santa Clara Sports Law - Firm to Front Office Experience powered by Fisher Phillips will offer one current Santa Clara Law 1L student the opportunity to gain meaningful private practice and in-house experience by spending five weeks with Fisher Phillips, followed by five weeks with the San Jose Sharks.

“This incredible partnership is one of the many ways our Sports Law program is preparing Santa Clara Law students with knowledge and hands-on experience in a rapidly-growing industry,” said Leonard Lun, Sports Law professor and Director of the Datta Center for High Tech Law’s Sports Law Certificate Program. “We are grateful to Fisher Phillips and the San Jose Sharks for opening their doors to our students, so they can see the real-world applications of the concepts they are learning in the classroom.”

During the Fisher Phillips portion of the program, the summer intern will work on substantive legal assignments, receive supervision and feedback from Fisher Phillips attorneys, and participate in programming and activities offered as part of the firm’s summer program.

“Fisher Phillips is proud to partner with the San Jose Sharks and Santa Clara Law to give students an exciting and meaningful introduction to employment law, private law firm practice, and the legal work that supports professional sports organizations,” said Jason Brown, Partner at Fisher Phillips.

During the San Jose Sharks portion, the student will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Sharks’ legal team, gaining exposure to legal issues arising in an in-house professional sports environment.

“San Jose is a place where business, innovation, and community come together, and the Sharks are proud to be part of that. This program gives Santa Clara Law students a chance to see how legal work supports two very different organizations: Fisher Phillips and a professional sports team. We’re excited to help develop local legal talent and give future lawyers a firsthand look at the range of opportunities here in Silicon Valley," said Jagjoth Bhullar, Deputy General Counsel for the San Jose Sharks.

Following the conclusion of the summer fellowship, the student will participate in a separate, for-credit academic externship with the San Jose Sharks during the 2L academic year. Professor and Director of Santa Clara Law’s Externship Program Nick Emanuel is looking forward to the launch of this unique program. "This opportunity with Fisher Phillips and the San Jose Sharks is an excellent example of how Santa Clara Law partners with employers to provide practical legal training. It will be a valuable learning experience for our students."

Applications for the Santa Clara Sports Law - Firm to Front Office Experience powered by Fisher Phillips open on Monday, November 16, 2026 and close on Friday, January 8, 2027.
