From Classroom to Courtroom: Mary Procaccio-Flowers Joins Federal Judiciary as Career Law Clerk

Santa Clara Law’s esteemed faculty member, Mary Procaccio-Flowers, recently announced that she has accepted a position as a career judicial law clerk in the Northern District of California. This marks another milestone in her remarkable career. 

Procaccio-Flowers earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, graduating summa cum laude, and her B.A. in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in litigation, with a particular focus on patent litigation, and is admitted to the State Bar of California and multiple U.S. District Courts, including the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of California, as well as the Eastern District of Texas.

Procaccio-Flowers joined Santa Clara Law as an adjunct lecturer in 2019 and transitioned to a full-time faculty role in 2020. She has taught courses including Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing, as well as Patent and Trade Secret Litigation. Known for her dedication to students, she has played a pivotal role in shaping future legal professionals, particularly those in the field of Intellectual Property. 

Before her teaching career Procaccio-Flowers distinguished herself at Wilson Sonsini, a well known law firm in the Bay area, where she represented leading technology companies in intellectual property litigation at the state, federal, appellate levels, as well as before the International Trade Commission. In addition to litigation, she advised corporations on the impact of intellectual property disputes on business transactions. 

Her leadership extended beyond her casework as she co-chaired the firm’s Associate Committee and served on both the Hiring and Education Committees. Procaccio-Flowers also demonstrated her commitment to the justice system through pro bono work, representing clients in asylum and other environmental issues. Finally early in her legal career, she clerked for Judge Susan Illston in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. 

Prior to her legal career, Procaccio-Flowers was an educator, teaching elementary and junior high school. Her passion for education has been a driving force throughout her professional journey, from mentoring students and young attorneys to inspiring her peers in legal academia. 

Procaccio-Flowers’ extensive expertise in IP litigation has made her a trusted advisor to technology companies navigating complex legal challenges. Her dedication to pro bono work has positively impacted asylum seekers and environmental causes. Additionally, her leadership in law firm committees has been instrumental in fostering mentorship, education, and career development within the legal profession.

As Mary Procaccio-Flowers embarks on her new role as a career judicial law clerk, she continues to inspire through her exceptional career achievements, dedication to education, and unwavering commitment to justice.
