As we begin a new academic year at Santa Clara University School of Law, we’re excited to welcome a new generation of students to our vibrant high tech law community. From our incoming Class of 2029, the enthusiasm for high tech law at Santa Clara Law continues to grow.

This year, 203 members of the incoming Class of 2029 have expressed an interest in high tech law.

Welcoming the Class of 2029

Our incoming students bring an impressive range of experiences and perspectives:

• 203 incoming students have expressed an interest in high tech law

• 161 median LSAT

• 3.52 median GPA

• 56% students of color

• 21% first-generation college graduates

We’re thrilled to welcome these students to Santa Clara Law and introduce them to the many opportunities available through the Datta Center for High Tech Law, our faculty, alumni, practitioners, and student organizations.

A Community Built by Students

One of the things that makes high tech law at Santa Clara so special is the incredible energy and leadership of our students. This year, we’re excited to welcome 1L representatives across our high tech law student organizations, giving our newest students an opportunity to get involved, build community, and help shape the future of high tech law at Santa Clara Law from the very beginning of their law school experience.

Students interested in high tech and IP law can connect with a wide range of student organizations, including:

• Chiefs in Intellectual Property (ChIPs)

• High Tech Law Journal (HTLJ)

• Internet Law Student Organization (ILSO)

• Privacy Law Student Organization (PLSO)

• Society for Artificial Intelligence and Law (SAIL)

• Society for Interactive Entertainment and Gaming Law (SIEGL)

• Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS)

• Student Intellectual Property Law Association (SIPLA)

Together, these organizations give students opportunities to explore everything from artificial intelligence and privacy to intellectual property, internet law, gaming, entertainment, sports, and emerging technologies.

Coming Up: High Tech Law General Information Session

We’re kicking off the year by bringing the entire high tech law community together for our upcoming High Tech Law General Information Session on September 10.

The session will bring together the Datta Center for High Tech Law team, high tech law faculty, and representatives from our high tech law student organizations for an opportunity to learn more about what Santa Clara Law has to offer.

Whether you already know that you want to pursue a career in technology and intellectual property law or you’re simply curious about what “high tech law” actually means, this session is a great opportunity to meet the people and organizations that make our community so unique.

Students can learn more about:

• Networking and career-building opportunities

• Ways to get involved as a 1L

• Opportunities to connect with faculty, alumni, and practitioners

And, of course, this is just the beginning.

Looking Ahead to a Fun Year

We have a lot planned for the 2026-27 academic year, and we’re especially excited about creating more opportunities for students to connect, have fun, and build community outside the classroom.

From student organization events and networking opportunities to conferences, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, connect with the community, and have fun along the way.

As we welcome the Class of 2029, we’re excited to see where this next year takes our community.
