Santa Clara Law students take this Oath of Professionalism at Convocation.
Today, I {state your name}, am joining the Santa Clara Law community and embarking on my professional career. Beginning now, I pledge to:
– honor the equal dignity and infinite worth of every human being and treat every person with respect;
– act with integrity, courtesy, civility, kindness, and fairness;
– promote an atmosphere of collegiality that I will carry forward into my professional career;
– complete every professional undertaking throughout law school and the legal profession in an honest, ethical, competent, prompt, and diligent manner;
– conform my conduct to the requirements of law, the rules and ethical standards governing Santa Clara Law, and, upon gaining admission to the Bar, the rules and ethical standards governing the legal profession;
– work to improve access to the legal system, the rule of law and democratic values, inclusive excellence, the equitable administration of justice, the quality of legal service, and the substance of the law itself; and
– pursue justice, practice peace, and reach for reconciliation.
I take this pledge freely and with honor.
