Welcome to a Time-Honored Tradition
Santa Clara Law’s Convocation Ceremony marks the beginning of the academic year with gratitude, reflection, purpose, and community. Rooted in the spirit of our Jesuit mission, the Law Convocation Ceremony is a sacred stage of professional formation. Our distinguished incoming students take the Oath of Professionalism, pledging to uphold the values of integrity, service, and justice that will guide their study of the law and shape their lifelong commitment to leadership for the greater good.
About the Law Convocation Ceremony
Law school and university leaders, faculty, staff, student leaders and mentors gather as a community to welcome the newest members of our legal community and celebrate the start of their academic and professional journey.
The program includes remarks from the Dean, law school and university leaders, SBA Co-Presidents, and a special guest speaker, followed by a fellowship reception.
Oath of Professionalism
At the heart of the Convocation Ceremony is the Oath of Professionalism, a solemn pledge taken by each incoming student as they begin their legal journey. This oath affirms their commitment to integrity, respect, and justice, and reflects the values that define the Santa Clara Law community. It marks the transition from law school applicant to student and future legal professional, grounded in service, ethics, and a deep responsibility to others.
