2021 In-House Counsel Institute

The In-House Counsel Institute offers 4 half-days of in-depth (virtual) training aimed at attorneys transitioning from law firms or public agencies to in-house positions, and to those attorneys wishing to enhance the quality of their service to in-house counsel. The Institute features daily interactions with general counsels of prominent Silicon Valley companies, interactive workshops and substantive panels relating to curated daily themes taught by SCL faculty and seasoned in-house and law firm veterans. Participants will also explore hot topics addressing emerging issues for in-house lawyers. 2021 registration fees are specially priced, with discounts for alumni and CLA Business Law Section members.

Open Source Licensing: How to Deal with Common In-House Use Cases

The High Tech Law Institute and Seagate Technologies are pleased to welcome Pat Bickley, Senior Corporate Counsel – IP, and Roshen Prasad, Senior Corporate Counsel, Commercial Contracts for a discussion on Open Source Licensing.

As open source software continues to become more prevalent, in-house counsel needs to be able to identify and manage the attendant risks. Common use cases include a company’s use of open source software, distribution of a product containing open source software, sharing open source code with third parties, and contributing to and starting open source projects. Policies to consider implementing around each use case will also be discussed.
