Assistant Clinical Professor of Law

Melody L. Sequoia joined the Santa Clara Law faculty in 2021 as an Adjunct Professor of Law.  She has taught Advocacy, the third semester of SCU’s Legal Analysis, Research and Writing program, and Advanced Legal Writing: Bar Exam, which focuses on developing the skills necessary for the essay and performance tests of the Bar Exam.  Melody has also served as a faculty grader for the Honors Moot Court Internal Program and enjoys working with students to build confidence in their research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Starting in the fall of 2022, Melody joins the full time faculty to teach Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing to first year students, among other courses.

Melody is the founder of the Sequoia Law Firm in Menlo Park, CA, focusing on plaintiff-side consumer protection litigation, including unfair and abusive business practices, predatory lending, FDCPA and Rosenthal Act violations, and false advertising.  Prior to founding the Sequoia Law Firm, Melody began her legal career in Chicago as a trial lawyer focusing on complex commercial litigation. She has successfully represented clients in both state and federal court and has experience in all phases of litigation, from initial case investigation to appeals.

Melody graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law.  While in law school, Melody served as a Notes and Comments Editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and a Vice President of the Chicago-Kent Moot Court Honor Society.  She served as a legal writing teaching assistant and received numerous writing awards. Melody also spent several semesters as a judicial extern in the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Melody was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended Palo Alto High School and obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California at San Diego. Outside of her work, she enjoys spending time with her family and hiking and camping throughout the great state of California.
