Sandee Magliozzi

Associate Dean for Experiential and Competency-based Learning; Clinical Professor of Law

Dean Magliozzi is a bold thought leader and member of the law school’s senior leadership team. Skilled at designing curriculum for future lawyers, Sandee believes in the development of lawyer competencies by helping students leverage their experiential learning opportunities to gain the agility and critical skills they need in bridging the gap to the rapidly changing legal industry. Through innovation and collaboration, Sandee sees how to synergize disparate ideas into a vision promising enough for everyone to sign on. She was a primary drafter of SCU Law’s Competency Model. She chairs the law school Assessment Committee, in addition to the Clinical Hiring, Retention and Promotion Committees. She previously served as a member of the Curriculum Committee and as a member of the Faculty Advisory Board for Ciocca Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Sandee works with faculty to collaborate on developing “next practices,” strategic curricular initiatives and innovative programs related to experiential learning with a focus on emerging trends. These include: the development, design, and approval of Santa Clara Law’s required first-year Critical Lawyering Skills seminar; the In-house Counsel Institute; the collaborative Bay Area Legal Incubator with the Alameda County Bar; the online Masters of Legal Studies for non-JD students in corporate compliance; and the recently launched hybrid Flex JD program.

Sandee’s considered a pioneer in attorney professional development. She brings over twenty-five years of experience assessing, designing and teaching critical lawyering skills. Sandee worked with numerous subject matter and industry experts in the development of curricula and competency models for both attorney professional development and legal education. Before joining the Law School, she was a former national Senior Manager of Attorney Training and Development at AmLaw100 firms.

Sandee served on the National Association for Legal Professionals Board of Directors and is often asked to write and speak on attorney professional development issues.
