    Professor Daniel Zazueta teaches Land Use Law and is currently Senior Deputy City Attorney for the City of San José, representing the Department of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement and staffing the Planning Commission and Historic Landmarks Commission. He specializes in land use, planning, housing, environmental, and municipal law.

    As a law student, Professor Zazueta was a judicial intern for California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno his 1L summer, a litigation intern for the Office of the County Counsel for Santa Clara County his 2L summer, and a judicial intern for the Hon. Jeffrey White in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California during the fall of his 3L year.

    After earning his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and passing the bar exam in 2010, Professor Zazueta moved to Washington, DC, and joined the Obama Administration as Special Assistant to the General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Energy. Professor Zazueta later became a trial attorney in DOE’s Litigation Division and spent the final six months of the Obama Administration as Deputy Ethics Counsel in the Office of the White House Counsel.

    Upon leaving Washington, DC, and the federal government in 2017, Professor Zazueta began his career as a local government attorney. He worked for the City of Santa Clara and Redwood City as a Deputy City Attorney. He then worked as an Assistant County Counsel for the County of Santa Cruz as the County’s sole land use attorney. Professor Zazueta joined the Office of the City Attorney for the City of San José in 2022 and handles both transactional and litigation assignments. He is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, Santa Clara County La Raza Lawyers Association, Honorable William A. Ingram American Inn of Court, the St. Thomas More Society of Santa Clara County, and the Rotary Club of San José.
