Larry Low

    Larry is the former Chief Operating Officer of Ascend and Ascend Foundation, the largest global network advancing Asian Pacific Islander professionals in the workplace and corporate boardrooms. As Ascend’s COO, he was responsible for Ascend’s professional leadership programs, conventions, 18 regional chapters, fundraising, research, and advocacy. Before his work at Ascend, Larry was the Chief Legal Officer of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, a global law firm with 1,100 attorneys in 26 offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. Respected as a lawyer for lawyers, Larry developed strategy, policy, and procedures for ethics, risk management, litigation mitigation and defense, governance, and contract negotiation. He also advised the firm’s human resources, information technology, and finance operations. Larry was a corporate partner advising high growth companies, venture funds, and partnerships on mergers and acquisitions, financings, and cross border transactions. He is an advisor to the Lotus Venture Partners Fund, a start-up venture fund.

    Larry has held numerous leadership positions in community and nonprofit organizations, including the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, Fine Arts Museums, Committee of 100, San Francisco Education Fund, Bay Area Discovery Museum, University High School, and the Hamlin School. President Bill Clinton appointed him to the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes as one of four United States representative arbitrators. Mayor Daniel Lurie appointed Larry to the San Francisco Police Commission.

    Larry taught the seminar Asian Americans and the Law at Stanford Law School, examining civil rights and belonging in American society. His articles have appeared in publications of the California Continuing Education of the Bar and the Practicing Law Institute. He has made presentations to the Practicing Law Institute, Law Journal Seminars, Silicon Valley Association of Start up Entrepreneurs, University of California Law San Francisco, University of California at Berkeley, Haas Business School, and the California State Bar, among others. He has served on the California State Bar Partnerships and Corporations Committees.

    Larry is a graduate of the University of California Law San Francisco, and the University of California at
    Berkeley.
