This highly interactive and experiential program meets the 40-hour training requirements of most courts and many community mediation programs. Topics include: \n\nUnderstanding and managing conflict\nNegotiation basics\nKey communication skills\, including empathic listening\nMediation ethics and decision making\nFacilitating case evaluation\, including the role of law and lawyers\nApplication of social and neuro sciences to conflict and negotiation\nSelf-awareness and self-reflection\nImplicit bias and cross-cultural competence\nSpecial issues: grief\, apology and forgiveness\nRepresenting clients in mediation\nProfessional development – reflective practice and the business of mediation\n\nTuition: $1\,995; $1\,695\, gov/non-profit; $100 discount 30 days before program (not available to gov/non-profit) \nTuition\, due at registration\, is fully refundable\, minus $300 cancellation fee\, up to two weeks before the course begins. \nFaculty: \nDana Curtis has trained hundreds of mediators training for organizations\, courts\, and law schools throughout the U.S. and internationally\, including at Stanford Law School for ten years\, and Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation\, for the past seven. Her mediation practice focuses on high conflict business\, employment\, probate\, and estate disputes. Dana also writes about mediation\, including as co-author of Appellate Mediation: A Guidebook for Attorneys and Mediators (ABA 2016). She served four years as a Circuit Mediator for the 9th Circuit and has been recognized as a “Top 50” California neutral.
