The Legal Information Institute (LII), founded in 1992 and housed at Cornell Law School, publishes electronic versions of legal materials, including the U.S. Code, Supreme Court cases, and the Code of Federal Regulations and makes them available to the public for free.

LII Releases Online Code of Regulations (CFR)
The online CFR is the result of collaboration among the LII, Cornell’s Law Library, and the Government Printing Office (GPO). It features cross-reference links within the CFR and to relevant portions of the United States Code and links to rule-making dockets for pending regulations.
LII’s U.S. Code More Current than ever with New USC-prelim Feature
In late April, USC-prelim was added to the online U.S. Code at the LII. This makes the online database far more current than the official version of the Code. However, the LII warns users to check slip laws from the GPO and recent legislation on the Library of Congress’s THOMAS to update what appears on the LII website.
The LII is part of the World Legal Information Institute (which provides legal materials from countries throughout the world) and has been a member of the Free Access to Law Movement since 2002.
