The Center for International Human Rights at Northwestern University has created a new, free, online resource about the death penalty in those countries in which it is still imposed.

The Death Penalty Worldwide is a database cataloging the offenses for which the death penalty may be imposed, methods of execution, death sentence and execution statistics, and additional data. Materials can be searched by country, geographic region, method of execution, etc. The website also indicates whether a particular country is a party to selected international treaties and it links to other online research resources about capital punishment.

Thanks to Irene Berkey, the Foreign and International Law Librarian at Northwestern’s Pritzker Legal Research Center for news about this resource.
