This is a link to the CASE OF EL-MASRI v. THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, the December 2012 European Court of Human Rights decision condemning the CIA’s extraordinary renditions programs, abducting and interrogating suspects without judicial authorization. The court accepted Khaled El-Masri’s account of his 2003 kidnapping from Macedonia, abusive interrogations at a CIA-run prison in Afghanistan, and subsequent abandonment in Albania. El-Masri has also sued in U.S., German, and Macedonian courts. The ACLU has filed a petition on his behalf with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

In 2006 and 2007, a Council of Europe investigation accused several European governments of compliance with the CIA’s detention centers and rendition flights during the years after the September 11, 2001, attacks at the World Trade Center.
