Law Reform

American Law Institute: Established in 1923 “to promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work.” Its work product includes the influential restatements of law (e.g. Restatement 2d, Contracts) and, together with the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, the Uniform Commercial Code.

National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws: Established in 1892, this organization is comprised of lawyers, judges, and law professors from throughout the country, whose purpose is “draft proposals for uniform and model laws and work toward their enactment in legislatures.” It has promulgated more than 200 model acts, including the Uniform Commercial Code, the Uniform Probate Code, and the Uniform Partnership Act.
