The Santa Clara Law Admissions & Financial Aid Office has invited Dr. Jeffrey Hanson, a nationally recognized expert on student loan repayment, to present seminars and offer individual 30-minute advising appointments on January 29 and 30, 2013. Please RSVP for the seminars to ensure we order enough food and refreshments for the event. January 29, 2013: Take Charge of Loan Repayment! Strategies for Managing Your Debt Successfully
   12-1 p.m. Bannan 139 and 4:45-5:45 p.m. Bannan 139 (repeat session)

This seminar provides strategies and suggestions for loan repayment success. Topics covered include: Understanding loan terms conditions; knowing how much to repay and to whom; defining short- and long-term financial goals; developing a budget plan and estimating how much you can afford to pay monthly; understanding the options if you can’t afford to make your loan payment (covering loan deferment, forbearance, and the various repayment programs, such as IBR and PAYE); loan forgiveness programs and when you qualify; keeping good financial records. (Food and Refreshments provided.) 

January 30, 2013: Loan Repayment Options for Public Service
   12-1 p.m. Bannan 139 and 5-6 p.m. Bannan 236 (repeat session)

If you are a student loan borrower planning for a career in public service, this seminar is for you! It provides an in-depth overview of the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, the Income-Based-Repayment (IBR) option and the newest “Pay as You Earn” (PAYE) Repayment Plan. The seminar includes examples illustrating how these programs can benefit you, and strategies for successfully managing loan repayment. Other potential loan forgiveness programs that may be available to you are also covered. (Food and Refreshments provided.) 

Confidential one-on-one 30-minute Advising Appointments are available both days in Bergin 111 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. THERE ARE VERY FEW TIME SLOTS LEFT!  Dr. Hanson will help you develop your own action plan for loan repayment. You will be required to bring a PRINTED copy of your federal student loan summary to the appointment. Print out your copy by visiting the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) at www.nslds.ed.gov.  Follow the directions to log into your confidential loan record and print out the home page of the “Financial Aid Review” showing your loan summary. You may also want to bring a PRINTED COPY of your current credit report if you have other consumer debt, such as credit card debt. Obtain a FREE copy of your credit report from one of the three national consumer reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion) at www.AnnualCreditReport.com. Written instructions are available to download below on how to obtain your federal student loan information from NSLDS and a free copy of your credit report.
