Spending 17 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of murder, NCIP exoneree Obie Anthony is now pushing for services to help those like him who were wrongfully convicted.
“Obie’s Law,” under AB 672, will provide mental health services, housing, and job training for people who have been exonerated. Anthony recently visited the state Capitol to advocate for such services.
“It stops a wrong that has happened. It prevents an individual from putting themselves back in a hostile environment because he doesn’t have any other options,” Anthony said.
“We want to send the message that when we make mistakes in government, in America, in California, we will rectify it. We will do all that we can to make people whole again,” Assemblyman Jones-Sawyer, author of the bill, told KCRA News.
