Santa Clara University School of Law professor Margaret M. Russell (currently on sabbatical at Northeastern University) participated in a briefing on the renewal of the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Act.

From the event description:

The Till Act, which is set to expire in 2017, was passed to effectuate a “sustained ,well-coordinated, and well-funded effort to investigate and prosecute racially motivated murders that occurred on or before December 31, 1969.” S. Rep. No. 110-88, at 2 (2007). Recognizing that the Act is yet unfulfilled, the Senate passed the Till Reauthorization Act by unanimous consent on July 14, 2016. Our coalition is now urging the House of Representatives to follow suit and pass this legislation upon returning from recess in September. Please join us for a discussion on the work that remains to be done and the importance of reauthorizing the Till Act.
