Summer Program for Undergraduates Considering Law School
Santa Clara University's School of Law is proud to announce that it has received a grant from the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) to implement its first Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars Program (PLUS Program) for the summer of 2003.
The PLUS Program is an intensive four-week law orientation program with five main goals and objectives: (1) introduce participants to the legal profession; (2) provide participants with a curriculum that is focused on developing and strengthening comprehensive reading, writing, logic, and reasoning skills; (3) introduce participants to the law school admissions process; (4) provide participants with the opportunity to meet prominent members of the legal profession; and (5) introduce students to Santa Clara University's School of Law.
The PLUS Program is designed for current undergraduate freshmen, sophomores, and juniors of underrepresented groups that include but are not limited to students of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, students from educationally disadvantaged communities, and other groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession. A total of twenty-four students will be chosen to participate in the program. The PLUS Program welcomes students from all two and four year institutions of higher learning.
The PLUS Program will be hosted at Santa Clara University’s School of Law located in Santa Clara, California, the heart of Silicon Valley. The PLUS Program will begin on Sunday, July 6, 2003 and will end on Saturday, August 2, 2003.
Students who are interested in applying for the PLUS Program must complete and submit an application form requiring a personal statement, an official transcript(s), and two letters of recommendation. Applicants need to have a grade point average (GPA) equal to or greater than a 2.5 and be in good academic standing with their undergraduate institution. Students that are selected to participate in the PLUS Program will receive a $200 stipend per week and will be given free room and board throughout the duration of the program. Please feel free to reproduce this e-mail message and the attached PLUS Program application for distribution. Please note that students that are chosen to participate in the PLUS Program will not be able to work during the program. Only completed applications will be considered. The application deadline is Thursday, May 1, 2003.
