Michael Adams of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is speaking at Santa Clara University School of Law Monday, March 20.  He will be speaking about "Advocating for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Equality in Courts of Law and Public Opinion.

Michael Adams guides Lambda Legal’s path-breaking work to educate the general public about the civil rights struggle of LGBT people and people with HIV in order to increase societal acceptance of full equality for all.  He also leads Lambda Legal’s education programs that empower LGBT people and people with HIV by giving them the information and resources they need to exercise their rights.

Prior to his present position, Adams was a civil rights litigator with Lambda Legal and the ACLU.  He litigated ground-breaking cases challenging discrimination against gays and lesbians in family law, criminal law and employment, and became one of the country’s experts on the legal and policy implications of government funding of religious groups.

Adams received his B.A. from Harvard College, his J.D. from Stanford Law School and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Stanford University. 

Mr. Adams lecture will take place from noon – 1:00 p.m. in Bannan Hall, Room 137.  Pizza will be provided.  There is limited space available for lunch with Mr. Adams.  There will be a wine and cheese reception at 5:15 p.m. on March 20 in the Strong Common Room in Bergin Hall.  Mr. Adams will have office hours at Loyola Hall, 425 El Camino Real, Santa Clara from 2:00 – 3:30p.m. on Monday, March 20 and from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21.  Email socialjustice@scu.edu or call 408-551-1720 to sign up to meet with Mr. Adams for office hours or for lunch.
