Santa Clara University School of Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Deborah Moss-West as Executive Director at the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center, which was effective January 4, 2016.

During the transition this semester, former KGACLC Executive Director Cynthia Mertens  and Moss-West will work together as Co-Directors to provide support to KGACLC.

Deborah Moss-West most recently served as Director of our Center for Social Justice and Public Service.  During her tenure at the Center she expanded the law school’s pro bono programs, launched the Marshall-Brennan initiative (and other pipeline programs), pioneered (with Stephanie Wildman) an undergraduate law and social justice class and pathway, and has been integral to building the Center and its reputation in the lawyering community.  Deborah brings many years of leadership experience, including eight years as Deputy Director of the East Bay Community Law Center, a clinical program of Berkeley Law. She is an incredible ambassador for us externally, serving on the State Bar’s Access to Justice Commission and the Charles Houston Bar Association, where she received the President’s Award in December 2015.  We are very proud that she is a Santa Clara Law alumna, making her involvement with our students and clinic especially inspirational.

Santa Clara Law is also pleased to announce that Professor Margalynne Armstrong will serve as interim Director, Center for Social Justice and Public Service, in addition to continuing in her role as Academic Director of the Center.

“For over 10 years, Margalynne has managed the Center’s academic programming, including the public interest and social justice law certificate,” said Sandra Magliozzi, Esq., Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning.  “The Center and law school community are quite fortunate to have her leadership and devotion to working with the students interested in social justice issues.”

The entire law school community sends its congratulations to Deborah and thanks Cynthia, Margalynne, and all who help keep public interest and social justice programs and clinics at Santa Clara Law strong.
