Santa Clara University School of Law alumnus Daniel Stellenberg M.S. ’97, J.D. ’01 has joined Paul Hastings LLP as a partner.

Press release:

A former Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP partner and experienced executive compensation attorney with a track record in private equity and mergers and acquisitions has joined Paul Hastings LLP to bolster the firm’s growing Bay Area presence, the firm announced Thursday.

Daniel Stellenberg brings a track record of expertise handing executive compensation issues in capital markets, private equity and M&A transactions, to his new firm, where he will be a partner in the employment law practice, based in Paul Hasting’s Palo Alto office, according to the firm.

Seth Zachary, chair of Paul Hastings, said in a statement on Thursday that Stellenberg is joining a practice that is a “cornerstone” of the firm and will help increase the firm’s strength in Silicon Valley.

“Dan has a reputation as a skilled navigator of the complex compensation and benefit challenges connected to transactions, which will be a tremendous resource for our clients in Silicon Valley,” he said. “Adding top-tier lawyers like Dan, who are leaders in their fields, is part of why Paul Hastings continues to be recognized as one of the world’s top employment law firms,” he added.

At Paul Hastings, Stellenberg, who worked at Shearman & Sterling LLP before he joined Pillsbury in May, will be reunited with a team of former Shearman & Sterling colleagues, the M&A attorneys Steve Camahort, Mike Kennedy, Dana Kromm and Jeffrey Wolf. The five attorneys had worked closely together at Shearman, according to Paul Hastings.

The firm touted its July acquisition of the Shearman lawyers as an opportunity to build its presence in the transactions and private equity spaces both on the West Coast and worldwide.

Stellenberg’s practice centers on the creation and execution of equity compensation and bonus plans, executive employment and separation agreements, and the related tax, accounting and securities law issues, according to Paul Hastings. The firm also touted his role as a “key member” of a transactional practice team, helping employers smoothly transition employees and their benefits during mergers, acquisitions and other transactions.

On Thursday, Stellenberg said in a statement that his move is a chance to bring his expertise to help grow a firm that has a strength in the employment law sector that he has long admired.

“I was particularly attracted to Paul Hastings’ commitment to strengthening its practices in Palo Alto and San Francisco and the tremendous opportunities presented by the firm’s continuing growth in Silicon Valley,” he added.

Stellenberg earned his undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994 and his law degree, magna cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law.

At Paul Hastings, Stellenberg is joining a full service law firm with 21 offices around the world.
